Acqua di Genova was created in 1853 by the well-known and famous perfumer Stefano Frecceri for the royal house of Savoia. This fragrance quickly became an irreplaceable part of the morning toilet of every important personality of the time. All of Europe's royal families at the time used Acqua di Genova with great passion. In those years, such illustrious people in contemporary history as Camillo Benso, Count of Cavour, and Constantino Nigro, then foreign minister, did not hide the fact that they used this scent to enrich their personality and to give the finishing touch to their appearance. King Vittorio Emanuele II was so impressed by the Acqua di Genova that, to express his appreciation, he awarded Stefano Frecceri and the Colonia Acqua di Genova by royal decree on March 28, 1866, the award of the Royal House and appointed him official purveyor to the court. In particular, the fresh, valuable and classic note of the fragrance also contributed to Virginia Oldoini, the Contessa di Castiglione, then praised as one of the most beautiful women in Europe, falling in love with the fragrance. This noblewoman was known for her charm, her clothing style and her demeanor and was therefore a role model for many men and women. She soon became the favorite at the French court of Napoleon III. Her charisma is so great that all the women at the French court imitate her and, last but not least, make extensive use of the Contessa's favorite scent, Acqua di Genova. The popularity and fame of the Acqua di Genova fragrance became more and more widespread and prizes and awards came from all over the world for this special Acqua Colonia.
